John Kavanagh, McGregor’s coach, recently revealed that he was not sure whether he would be training McGregor again.

In case you didn’t know…

Conor McGregor has trained under John Kavanagh at in Dublin since 2008 when he first began his professional MMA career. Since then, the two have worked together throughout McGregor’s fast-paced rise in UFC the level of Superstardom where he is today, as the promotions biggest draw by far.

Recently, McGregor has suffered two setbacks one after the other. Last year, he suffered a loss to Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, although he lasted longer than anyone thought he possibly could. More recently, McGregor lost to current UFC Lightweight Champion, the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The heart of the matter

Ever since suffering the loss to Nurmagomedov, a distance has grown between McGregor and his coach. The two have apparently not spoken with each other since the fight.

Now, John Kavanagh has said that he is not going to commit to training Conor McGregor for his next fight and will have to be convinced.

He said that he would need a reason to train McGregor again, indicating he would be okay with training him for a Nate Diaz fight or a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov.

However, if McGregor did not have a good reason for his next fight Kavanagh said he would not be training the fighter.

He also talked about his concern for the fighter’s family, saying that McGregor was getting older and it was time for him to take better care of his health.

What’s next?

At this moment, it remains to be seen whether McGregor and Kavanagh team up again or not to train for a fight.
